Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri, the Vice-Chancellor of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), recently embarked on a significant journey, paying a courtesy visit to the Technology and Science Park in Wildau, hosted by Mr. Gerhard Janßen, the Managing Director of WFG Dahme-Spreewald. This visit marked a crucial step in fostering international collaboration, with the primary goal of presenting regional projects and exploring potential partnerships, particularly in recruiting skilled workers.
During the visit, Prof. Muchiri was introduced to various innovative initiatives, including the innovation network dahme_innovation, renowned for its groundbreaking approaches and critical role in regional economic development. A key focus of the discussions was the potential for recruiting qualified professionals from Kenya to help mitigate the skills shortage in the Dahme-Spreewald region.
DeKUT, home to approximately 10,000 students, prides itself on its strong emphasis on engineering, with 85% of its students enrolled in engineering programs. A distinctive feature of the university’s curriculum is a two-year German language course supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which prepares students to study or work in Germany. This initiative not only enhances their language proficiency but also strengthens international cooperation.
A standout feature of DeKUT is its National Technology and Science Park, designed to serve as a hub for innovation, mirroring the capabilities of the Technology and Science Park in Wildau. The university also has a strong partnership with Siemens, offering its students the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP). This program, conducted in collaboration with Siemens SITRAIN Germany, is an internationally recognized standard for comprehensive qualifications in mechatronic systems.
DeKUT has a history of successful exchange programs with TH Wildau, which have facilitated intercultural exchanges and forged valuable professional connections. Both institutions are keen to expand their partnership further, aiming to support local businesses in the Dahme-Spreewald region by providing highly qualified professionals. The visit by Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri represents a significant step towards deepening the relationship between DeKUT and the Dahme-Spreewald region. Both parties are filled with optimism, envisioning a future where this collaboration will continue to grow, fostering mutual benefits and contributing to the advancement of both areas.
